Camille's Playlist

16 songs! @______@ Man, this rotation took a long time, and now my eyes are tired. ( ̄д ̄ ) This rotation is a lot larger than my usual because 1) it's been a long time since my last update and 2) it won't be a while until my next one. I'll be busy with finals coming up. For now, I'm home for thanksgiving, so I finally had the time to get this update, as well as this new layout up! For those of you in America as well, hope you had a good thanksgiving! Please do comment, I put a lot of work into this rotation. ♥
Song: BUMP! BUMP! feat. VERBAL (m-flo)
Artist: BoA
Language: Japanese

Single: BUMP! BUMP! feat. VERBAL (m-flo)

I'm sorry to say that I'm not really much a fan of her U.S. releases (though I'll admit I Did it for Love grew on me), and then this popped, and I decided to give this a shot. It was a nice surprise! I ended up liking this song pretty quickly. It's got a playful beat, accented by the trumpets, which I think add a unique flair to this song. m-flo adds some variety and his parts flow in nicely, and I think it's just all together coordinated well.
Song: Murasaki no Yukari, Futatabi
Artist: Rin'
Language: None (Instrumental)
Rating: 10/10 | Length: 4:41 | Size: 10.9 MB
Album: Genji Nostalgia

I didn't listen much to Rin' before, and then I went and started listening to them more intensely about a week ago. These three girls are amazing with what they do, mixing together traditional Japanese instruments with pop. This song is purely instrumental, starting off with strong drums, strings, and then brings in the flute that is the main focus of the song. It builds into a strong melody that one can catch onto easily like a pop song. It's primarily led by the traditional flute, which has a strong but soothing sound to it that is so lovely on the ears. The song has a grandure to it, I really recommend it.
Song: Honesty
Artist: Matsushita Yuya
Language: Japanese
Rating: 8/10 | Length: 5:00 | Size: 11.6 MB
Single: Honesty / Onegai ga Kanau kara...

Mmm, this guy's voice is like honey on the ears. ♥ He's an R&B Japanese singer, produced by Jin Nakamura, who is known for having worked with EXILE and CHEMISTRY. Even if he is an R&B singer, this is very much a pop song, especially the beginning I think. His voice is so smooth, and the song grew on me rather quickly.
Song: I Don't Care (Reggae Mix Ver.)
Artist: 2NE1
Language: Korean
Rating: 8/10 | Length: 3:50 | Size: 9.2 MB
Single: None; performed on Inkigayo
DOWNLOAD //
This is a live performance of their song I Don't Care. Think the song a lot more toned down, with the reggae undertones, and having a lounge-like atmosphere to it. These girls sound good here, and it's a nice, relaxing contrast to the original. I figure this is probably the closest we have to an acoustic version of one of their songs, and minus a whole lot of vocoder, giving it a much more natural feel.
Song: I Love You (Rap Ver.) (Feat. Tablo)
Artist: Navi
Language: Korean
Rating: 8/10 | Length: 3:43 | Size: 5.3 MB
Single: 1st Single I Luv U
DOWNLOAD //
If you remember, I introduced Navi last time, so awed at how powerful her voice is. Though this is no powerhouse song like Wasteful Tears, I thought I'd post another song by her. It also features Tablo, which is also a plus and doesn't kill it like HyunAh did in Wasteful Tears. I think is an okay, medium-paced song, but a song that better showed her voice would be nicer. Nonetheless, her soulful voice is still so refreshing. ♥
Song: Koe wo Kikasete
Artist: Big Bang
Language: Japanese
Rating: 8.5/10 | Length: 4:14 | Size: 9.9 MB
Single: Koe wo Kikasete
DOWNLOAD //
I've always been pretty disappointed by Big Bang's Japanese releases, but wow, they took a really nice turn with Koe wo Kikasete! Compared to previous Japanese releases, I feel they're trying less hard with this song to fit that "clubbing" style of music, but embrace a softer sound. Their pronunciation has vastly improved and honestly, I think this song sounds rather sweet. I suppose it could do without the rap part, but it's not too out of place, and the English lyrics there aren't awkward at all.
Song: Mikageishi -single ver.-
Artist: UVERworld
Language: Japanese
Rating: 7.5/10 | Length: 6:18 | Size: 14.6 MB
Single: Kanashimi wa Kitto
DOWNLOAD //
Shuffling through some songs, deciding what to post, and wow, wow! Is this UVERworld I hear, taking a more acoustic approach? Yes, it is! (I really haven't listened to them in a long time.) So about over a minute, Takuya∞ sings clearly and with some acoustic guitar, but then you hear the electric guitar quietly make its way in, and then the song makes a sweeping shift with instrumentals, but still keeping it rather mellow. It's nice to hear them going for some more variety; I'll admit I lose my attention to this song after a while, but some things get me back, like the bridge. So the song has some really nice parts, and it's nice to hear some variety from them.
Song: NIGHT FLIGHT
Artist: Perfume
Language: Japanese
Rating: 9.5/10 | Length: 5:21 | Size: 12.4 MB
Album: ⊿ (Triangle)
DOWNLOAD //
I've been listening to Perfume a lot more lately, especially since their electropop is a good way to stay awake when you still have homework or some studying left to do. xD NIGHT FLIGHT is one of my favorites on their most recent album. It's cute, and I like the intro, where is does feel like you're preparing to take off... in an alien-sort of way. With a head-bopping beat, and these three girls counting off and wishing you to have a nice flight into the sparkly night sky, it's too cute to resist.
Song: 1 Rittoru no Namida -Main Theme-
Composer: Susumu Ueda
Language: None (Instrumental)
Rating: 9/10 | Length: 0:00 | Size: 0:00 MB
Album: 1 Litre no Namida Original Soudntrack
DOWNLOAD //
I started rewatching the jdrama 1 Litre of Tears recently, and took the time to really listen to the soundtrack, and it's quickly become one of my favorite drama soundtracks. The main theme is a gently melody, and I'm especially fond of the piano, flute, and harp. Even with such a sad drama, I think this song encompasses the hope the idea of hope that Aya somehow maintains in the drama despite her hardships.
Song: Sennen no Niji
Artist: Rin'
Language: Japanese
Rating: 9/10 | Length: 4:10 | Size: 5.8 MB
Single: Genji Nostalgia
DOWNLOAD //
If you really are looking for a blend of traditional and pop, then go with this one, because this one actually features vocals, unlike the other Rin' song posted above. Actually, this song features alan! (Though her name is not mentioned on the track, maybe because it was early in her Japanese debut?) alan's latest album has gotten a lot of hate, and though I do think it is a bit on the more mediocre pop side, I think it's nice to see her venturing in other types of music. I think she really ought to do something more like this though. What I enjoy about this song is you've got a good balance of both alan and the traditional instruments. You get to hear both, but with neither one is overpowering the other (too much)---when alan sings, you can still hear the flute and other traditional strings playing though softer, but then those get their moments to shine as well.
Song: Strong Girl
Artist: Jewelry
Language: Korean
Rating: 8/10 | Length: 3:42 | Size: 8.6 MB
Album: Sophisticated
DOWNLOAD //
During a karaoke night, a friend suggested Jewelry. Their style of music has a similar feel to 2NE1, so if you like them, maybe you'd like to try Jewelry out. Jewelry do indeed remind me of 2NE1, but with deeper and (likely) better voices. The song, like the title implies, really does sound like an empowering song for girls, and it has a fairly catchy chorus, but without repeated syllables, ahaha. Individually, I like their voices, but sometimes the chorus is a bit... jarring on the ears for me.
Song: Tired of Waiting
Artist: 2PM
Language: Korean
Rating: 10/10 | Length: 0:00 | Size: 0:00 MB
Album: 1:59 PM
DOWNLOAD //
So recently... I've fallen in love with 2PM and wish I had discovered them before the Jay controversy :(. They seriously have the catchiest stuff, and I love their beats. ♥ When I first heard this song as a teaser to their latest album, I fell for it immediately. From the clapping at the very beginning, the engaging beat pulls you in and it's hard to not move with it.
Song: TOKYO
Artist: SCANDAL
Language: Japanese
Rating: 8/10 | Length: 3:00 | Size: 7.1 MB
Single: Sakura Goodbye
DOWNLOAD //
Also got into SCANDAL maybe about a month ago. There need to be more rocking girl groups like them. ♥ They're best know for Shoujo S, the Bleach theme that Eden posted before. The song has a steady, drum beat to it, with stacatto-like rhythm to it most of the time. The lyrics are pretty simple, and I think that's the appeal of this song---it's a nice piece of girl-rock that's easy to sing along to.
Song: Tell Me Your Wish
Artist: Royal Pirates
Language: Korean
Rating: 7/10 | Length: 3:17 | Size: 3.1 MB
Album: Royal Pirates 2009
DOWNLOAD //
So Royal Pirates are a rock group that do covers of popular kpop tracks, and this here is a cover of SNSD's Genie. It's interesting to hear such a girly pop song redone into a rock version. My first impression of this song was that the guy's voice made me think of F.T Island. The song and his voice are okay I guess, I just thought I'd post this out of interest. ^^
Song: Wedding Dress
Artist: Taeyang
Language: Korean
Rating: 10/10 | Length: 4:07 | Size: 9.6 MB
Digital Single: Wedding Dress
DOWNLOAD //
I am in LOVE with this song, oh my goodness! *__* I enjoyed Where U At but Wedding Dress really got me. ♥ If anything, this has me really hopeful for Taeyang's solo album. Accompanied by a beat and a typical sort of wedding song in piano, this song is a lovely R&B ballad, with Taeyang sounding wonderful. The song does indeed convey a subtle sadness. Really, I can't say enough how much I appreciate the addition of piano to this song. It honestly adds a unique touch to this song, and a sense of irony, especially if you watch the music video. Which is a MUST watch, it's like watching a five minute drama. T__T
Song: Y.O.U
Artist: SHINee
Language: Korean
Rating: 9/10 | Length: 3:49 | Size: 8.8 MB
Mini-Album: 2009, Year of Us
DOWNLOAD //
As much as I enjoyed Ring Ding Dong and played it over and over and over after it came out, Y.O.U easily became my favorite song on the entire album on the first listen. It's not a mediocre ballad, but a smooth, atmospheric R&B ballad that was really a pleasurable surprise. It's so smooth on the ears, whether it's the clearly sang solo parts or their nice harmonizations.
